Orchids, those exotic visitors to my Northern Virginia garden, were the first flowers I painted. You coud almost say they chose me because they remained unchanged for the many weeks it took to figure out exactly how each petal revolved around the central flower structure, changing shape and direction as the angle changed. The colors in a simple pure white flower astonished me. At any rate, while I paint many other flowers too now, I keep coming back to orchids, my first love.
